SANTA CLAUS’ GOOD DEEDS
For over 30 years, Complexe Desjardins’ Santa Claus has taken advantage of his visit to Montréal’s Complexe Desjardins to do a few extra good deeds. As such, he has over the last several years - and to the great joy of everyone involved - spent time bringing Christmas cheer to sick children at Hôpital Ste-Justine. This year, Santa Claus decided to bring smiles to the faces of another group of children and thus enshrine a new tradition : our famous friend visited nearly 100 children at Dr. Gilles Julien’s clinic for children in difficulty in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
The REAL Santa Claus, accompanied by the star fairy and his faithful elves, was able to convey all of the love he felt for these courageous children, all aged from 0 to 12, who are facing incredibly hard challenges. He took the time to listen to each and every one of them in addition to leaving them small gifts. Our most prolific grandfather figure also had the opportunity of meeting with several parents as well as Dr. Gilles Julien and his clinic’s dedicated staff. The event, which was held on December 2, was a huge success. Various media were present to record the details of the joyous activity.

NOTICE TO OUR CLIENTELE-SAFETY OF OUR PARKING FACILITIES
In light recent events involving the collapse of part of an indoor parking lot in Montréal’s western sector, we wish to reassure users of the structural safety of Complexe Desjardins’ parking facilities.
Between 1998 and 2004, Complexe Desjardins invested a total of $7.9 million in a major restoration of three parking levels, two docking areas and its freight dock.
The works involved notably include:
New waterproofing systems comprised of an impermeable surface membrane (liquid) and an elastomer monolayer (roll) ;
Rebuilding of the structural slab and a portion of the paved surface.
Our facilities, moreover, are regularly maintained according to strict procedures, and supervised by an onsite management team that monitors activities twenty-four hours a day. We are confident in the safety of Complexe Desjardins’ facilities and wish to ensure our clients that they can avail themselves of our services without fear.

COMPLEXE DESJARDINS AT THE HUB OF AN UNDERGROUND WASTE COLLECTION SYSTEM
Complexe Desjardins is expected to be at the hub of an automated underground waste collection system starting in January 2010.
The introduction of the new system stems from an agreement recently signed between the City of Montréal and the Spanish firm Envac Iberia for the supply of underground waste collection pipes.
The system, to be set up in the Place des Arts sector, is made up of litter bins that empty automatically into a network of underground pipes through which waste and recyclables are suctioned and sent to a central collection point located in Complexe Desjardins.
Reflecting the precepts of sustainable development, the system makes it possible to separate waste at source and reduce road transportation, thus cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 100 tonnes per year. The infrastructure could also be used as a composting unit, which would be the first system of its kind in North America.
Negotiations are underway to lease the space and use the delivery bays at Complexe Desjardins. Representatives of Desjardins Property Management and the City of Montréal will be travelling to Spain shortly to see the system already in operation in Barcelona.
