NOTICE of construction work – corner of St-Urbain and Ste-Catherine

Ville de Montréal will soon begin construction work at the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Urbain streets, as a result of which the intersection will be closed to southbound traffic for around three weeks, effective October 25, 2008.

Access to the parking area via St-Urbain will be open in the opposite direction, from boulevard René-Lévesque. The parking lot exit on St-Urbain will not be affected by these temporary changes.

The Jeanne-Mance entrance to the parking area will also remain accessible.

COMPLEXE DESJARDINS AT THE HUB OF AN UNDERGROUND WASTE COLLECTION SYSTEM

Complexe Desjardins is expected to be at the hub of an automated underground waste collection system starting in January 2010.

The introduction of the new system stems from an agreement recently signed between the City of Montréal and the Spanish firm Envac Iberia for the supply of underground waste collection pipes.

The system, to be set up in the Place des Arts sector, is made up of litter bins that empty automatically into a network of underground pipes through which waste and recyclables are suctioned and sent to a central collection point located in Complexe Desjardins.

Reflecting the precepts of sustainable development, the system makes it possible to separate waste at source and reduce road transportation, thus cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 100 tonnes per year. The infrastructure could also be used as a composting unit, which would be the first system of its kind in North America.

Negotiations are underway to lease the space and use the delivery bays at Complexe Desjardins. Representatives of Desjardins Property Management and the City of Montréal will be travelling to Spain shortly to see the system already in operation in Barcelona.

COMPLEXE DESJARDINS STANDS OUT ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE

Desjardins Property Management (DPM) is proud to announce that Complexe Desjardins, a building complex owned by Desjardins Financial Security, recently received The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) award for 2008 in the Renovated Building category of the BOMA international awards.

The Office Building of the Year award is the most sought-after tribute in the North American commercial real estate industry, commending excellence and quality in property management and operations as well as a focus on resource conservation and environmental awareness. It has been 20 years since such an award was won by a Quebec building.

This award crowns the many other accolades received by Complexe Desjardins over the past year, among them the AQME Énergia award (bestowed by the Quebec Association of Energy Managers) and the building’s induction into Hydro-Québec’s Energy Savers’ Circle. It also confirms to DPM’s expertise and leadership in the real estate industry.
